Mission Community Hospital Confirms Recent Ransomware Attack and Possible Data Breach

RansomHouse, a known ransomware group has added Mission Community Hospital based in Panorama City, California to its victim list. The group claims to have stolen 2.5 TB of data, including a large amount of patient data.


While Mission Community Hospital has confirmed the breach, the hospital continues to investigate the incident and has not yet released a list of compromised data types. If and when Mission confirms that patient data was leaked, the company will be required to begin sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.

It's reported that Mission first learned of the issue when it was investigating a network switch failure on May 1, 2023. As the hospital investigated the failure, it found evidence of a compromise. Mission’s continued investigation determined the ransomware group accessed the hospital IT network through vulnerabilities existing in both the network and the VMware environments.


Mission appears to be in the process of finalizing its investigation. The hospital has not yet released which data types may have been impacted. Once Mission Community Hospital confirms that patient data was compromised, it will send out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
